I answered a knock at the door this afternoon and was greeted by my neighbor. I am very fortunate to live in an area that is populated by artist of all sorts. There is a house across the street whose last two owners are drummers, living next door to a gentleman who has lived in the neighborhood all his life and he’s a drummer. My neighbor behind me is a bassist and plays in local jazz and oom-pah loompa bands. Across the road from him is the neighborhood author. It was her I met when I opened the door. She handed me this piece of paper with a poem she had written the day before. She told me that she had set it aside and did not think about it too much. Today she read it again and realized she must have been thinking of me when she wrote it and wanted to share it with me.
And now with permission I share it with you.
A Poem of Praise at Halloween Thank you, Theresa you made my day.
It is hard to find
This time of year
Reason or rhyme as
Goblins draw near
When orange and black
Install lots of fear
Yet poems of old
The teachers told
Were praise sung
By souls quite bold
Thus, in my own
Deliberate way
I sing a song
Praise today for
The makers whose candies
Keep tricksters at bay!
